According to the National Retail Association, for the ninth year in a row, gift cards are the most requested holiday gift.
A gift card can seem a bit impersonal, but not as much as just handing someone cash. There are many benefits to providing a friend or family member with a gift card. The biggest advantage is that you can be sure they will select a gift that they really want. Of course convenience is always relevant during the holiday season. There is no doubt that gift cards are easier and faster to buy than traditional gifts. And mailing gift cards is certainly easier than mailing bulky packages. And much less expensive.
Who is more likely to purchase a gift card as a gift? The National Retail Association survey shows that men plan to spend more on gift cards than women ($162.01 vs. $144.62). No one is judging.
Adults 65+ are planning spend the most overall. For those with grandchildren, I am sure many have thought, “Who knows what kids want these days.”
