What is changing about the shared branch process if I'm visiting a branch outside of my home state?
On May 1, there will be a new verification process called IDCheck at Shared Branch locations for individuals who are visiting a branch outside of their home state. This process uses a secure QR code for member authentication to provide enhanced protection and a faster experience when conducting in-branch transactions.
How does the new process work for visiting a branch outside of my home state?
- Scan the QR Code: On arrival at a Shared Branch, scan the displayed QR code with your smartphone or smart device or visit verify.coop.org.
- Enter Your Details: Provide your home credit union information, your member account number, and the last four digits of your Social Security Number.
- Verify Your Identity: Take photos of your government-issued ID (front and back), then a selfie for additional fraud protection.
- Get Your Access Code: Once validated, you’ll receive an access code to share with branch staff, who will then assist with your transaction.
Do I need to repeat the process during every visit outside of my home state?
If you choose to store your IDCheck validation on your device, future visits will be even quicker—you’ll only need to scan the QR code to receive a new access code, unless you get a new device or your ID expires.
What if my access code expires?
The access code is valid for 20 minutes. If it expires, you can simply start the process again by scanning the QR code.
Can I use a military ID with IDCheck?
No, federal law prohibits photocopying or photographing military IDs. Please bring another form of government-issued ID.
What if I need assistance or have questions at the branch?
Frontline staff are fully trained and ready to help you with IDCheck and answer any questions related to the new process for individuals visiting a branch outside of their home state.
